Private Equity in Healthcare: Challenges, Pitfalls and Opportunities

Overview: 

The healthcare industry has seen a significant expansion in the degree of investment from private equity funds in recent years.  Those investments have come with challenges to physicians’ independence and career satisfaction, and the industry is undergoing increased scrutiny from federal and state governments.  This course will examine (i) typical models for private equity engagement, (ii) steps and questions for health care providers to prepare for such a transaction; (iii) key deal points, structures and steps, and (iv) government challenges in private equity investment.

Course Objective: 

• Identify key questions for sellers to ask, including questions for potential buyer and questions for the practice to ask internally.
• Identify key steps to help sellers prepare for a transaction.
• Discuss common criticisms of private equity investments and the experience of working under PE ownership.
• Discuss recent regulatory developments related to private equity ownership
