Overview:

Following the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision in 2022, the federal government and state governments scrambled to adapt to an environment where reproductive health decisions were no longer protected by the US Constitution.  One response was a new rule expanding upon HIPAA’s existing privacy protections, but focused on reproductive health.  In this course, we will examine this new rule as well as emerging challenges and will use case examples to illustrate its interpretation.

Course Objective:

  • Explore potential privacy challenges emerging out of the Dobbs decision
  • Explain the new 2024 reproductive health privacy rule
  • Illustrate the application of the new rule using contemporary case examples

Target Audience:

  • Hospital or physician practice managers; attorneys and law students; privacy and security officers
